Glanrafon Regeneration Update

Over the last couple of years we have been looking at Glanrafon from a long term financial view and listening to the views of tenants that live there. So using our housing expertise we did some research to find out what type of housing we need for Glanrafon.

This helped us reach a decision, with tenants to:

  • Demolish the main block of maisonettes.
  • Keep the other five blocks of flats.

We will be spending over £1.5M on:

  • Giving the flats a brand new modern look.
  • Adding render and insulation to the outside walls.
  • Closing in the flights of stairs and adding a secure door entry system.
  • Renewing roofs.
  • Changing the design of the windows.
  • Making better use of shared outside space.
  • Upgrade and improve the existing children’s play space which is at the heart of the site.
  • Demolish the existing flats numbers 1 to 30 and replace with a mix of family homes.

We hope to start improvement works on the flats at Glanrafon in late spring, 2019. We thank tenants for talking to us about the improvements. We shared what you told us with our architects and this helped them with their design plans.

We held an event at the Golygfa Gwydyr community centre on Plough Field in Llanrwst on Wednesday, 27th February for you to:

  • look at our plans
  • find out more information on what we’re doing and what to expect from the changes
  • find out how long the works will take from start to finish and inside your home
  • share our first set of design plans and hear what you think about redeveloping the maisonette site

What happens next?

We will look at your comments and where we can make changes to our final design plans to the blocks of flat.

We will then submit our final designs for planning approval in the coming weeks. The application will be available to view and pass comment on Conwy County Borough Council’s planning portal.

Our hope is to start improvement works in late spring 2019. We will stay in touch with tenants during this time and set up a working group to get involved with plans to change your shared outside living space.

Redevelopment of the maisonettes

After it’s demolished, we aim to build a new scheme of quality family homes. At the moment, we have been looking at a development that has a mix of 3 and 4 bedroom family homes with gardens and off road car parking space.

We will be holding a formal public pre-planning consultation to show you our plans and to receive your feedback on our proposals. This is likely to happen during the summer 2019.
