Transfers and exchanges

Transfers and exchanges

If your home is no longer suitable, you may be eligible for a transfer. If you have been a Cartrefi Conwy tenant for 12 months or more you can apply to transfer to a more suitable property. We use a banding system that gives priority to those who have the greatest need to move. The amount of time you have to wait will depend on your degree of urgency and how soon a suitable property becomes available.

If your home is now to large for your needs (you may have been affected by the bedroom tax too) and you wish to downsize to a smaller property, Cartrefi Conwy will pay you up to £500 * (along with any moving costs) in order to make this move as easy as possible.

Mutual Exchanges

A mutual exchange means that a Cartrefi Conwy tenant “swaps” their home with another Cartrefi Conwy tenant or with a tenant from a different housing association or Council by signing a deed of assignment. Cartrefi Conwy tenants can use HomeSwapper  for FREE to identifying a possible mutual exchange. We are happy to help you register for this or to support you to find a mutual exchange – this can be a quick and easy way to move homes. If you want to swap homes (mutual exchange) you must make an application to Cartrefi Conwy and will respond to all applications received within the statutory timescale, currently 42 days.
We will need to carry out a home visit to check the condition of your home. This will also be an opportunity to talk through the process with you. If you are swapping to or with a tenant from another social landlord we will make requests to other landlords for references.
Sometimes we cannot give permission for a mutual exchange – we will discuss this in full with you when you make an application. Once you have made an application we will always write to you with our decision to accept or reject the application to exchange.

If you are thinking about a mutual exchange it is very important to make sure you are happy with the condition of the property you are moving to. Before agreeing to move make sure you have visited and looked around the property and all garden areas.
