Types of contract

From 1 December 2022 we will be required by law to issue you with a new contract. There are two main types of occupation:

• A secure contract will replace your assured tenancy
• A standard contract is the default contract for the private rented sector, but can be used by local authorities and Registered Social Landlords in certain circumstances

This change isn’t anything to worry about. The aim of the new law is to make it simpler and easier for landlords and tenants to rent a home in Wales.

You will get your new occupation contract in May 2023.

When you get yours, you do not need to action or sign anything, simply keep it safe with your other important household documents.
