In response to community concerns about waste and fly tipping, Cartrefi Conwy has supported a series of successful litter pick events in Llandudno and Chester Avenue, reinforcing its commitment to building engaged and active communities.
Llandudno Clear Up Days
Two community clean-up events were organised in March following concerns raised by tenants, the ELT, local MP and Councillors about waste issues on the estate. Leaflets were distributed to inform residents and encourage participation. The first event took place on the Tre Cwm estate on 25th March, with 13 adults and 25 children, along with support from North Wales Housing, collecting 20 bags of rubbish. The second event took place in the Kings Road/Trinity Park area on 29th March, attended by 13 adults and 7 children, including MP Claire Hughes, and resulted in the collection of 18 bags of rubbish.
These events not only improved the local environment but also provided a great opportunity for tenants and partner organisations to work together towards a common goal—taking pride in their community.
Chester Avenue Clear Up Day
Prompted by tenant complaints about waste and fly tipping, a community clear-up day was held in Chester Avenue. A large skip was arranged and filled within two hours, highlighting the extent of the issue. While some partners were unable to attend, committed colleagues ensured the day went ahead. Tenant surveys collected on the day offered valuable insights into the barriers people face in managing waste, with common responses including the need for more bins, increased collections, better education, and enforcement.
These events are part of Cartrefi Conwy’s wider efforts to develop community-led projects that tackle issues highlighted by tenant-facing colleagues and to support neighbourhoods in taking positive action.
