Quita Williams North Wales Fire and Rescue’s Partnership Manager for Conwy and Denbighshire came to our office in Abergele to hand deliver the 50 new stove guard devices donated by the service to Ceri Twist our Independent Living Service Manager!
Why are we installing stove guards?
North Wales Fire and Rescue has experienced a number of incidents resulting in multiple turnouts to cooking left unattended.
In response, the fire service set up a study in cooperation with the council and Unicook Ltd to assess the effect of stove guard technology in preventing these incidents. The Unicook Airis product was chosen in part for its built-in data recording.

Stove guards prevent fires and, in some cases, greatly limit smoke. This reduces false alarms and potential incidents and in turn, can reduce pumps turning out in response to callouts.
As cooking is the root cause of 50% of domestic dwelling fires, the impact of a stove guard can be significant.
The stove guard is a useful aid in helping people with dementia maintain their independence for longer. This tool will mean they can continue to cook without fear of an incident or the fire service showing up at their door.
